Student Government Looking to fill Vacant Senator Positions

By Christian Rosario / Editor-in-Chief

Raritan Valley Community College’s Student Government Association (SGA) is looking for student candidates to fill two vacant senator positions. Students interested are required to fill the Declaration of Candidacy by noon on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

In the 2014 SGA elections students voted seven officers into positions. Two senator positions did not have candidates.

Responsibilities of SGA senators include staying informed on matters concerning student clubs and organizations; conducting polls, surveys and interviews with the student body; voting on the Club Budget Allocation Process; publicizing information to the student body; and assisting the other SGA officers in their duties.

According to an email SGA sent to the student body, “As an active member of SGA, not only will you become a positive force at RVCC, but you will develop strong leadership qualities that will help you long after graduation.”

Senators are required to have completed 12 credit hours at RVCC, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout the term of office, enroll in at least 6 credit hours throughout the term of office and be in good standing with the college.

SGA officers will interview candidates that meet the criteria. For more details, students may visit the Student Life office located in the Ray Bateman Center for Student Life & Leadership from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, or email and include “New SGA Senator” in the subject line.
