The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College will present A Couple of Blaguards, Wednesday, March 11, with performances at 2 and 7 p.m. The rollicking comedy, created by brothers Frank and Malachy McCourt, offers an autobiographical account of their years growing up in poverty in Ireland.
The presentation is part of the Theatre’s Major Artists series. Tickets cost $10 for the 2 p.m. show and $25 for the 7 p.m. show.
Though times were tough in Limerick for the McCourts, the tales spun by the best-selling authors simmer with bittersweet recollections, ferocious humor and a parade of colorful characters. These include the priest who warns of sinners’ eyeballs exploding in Hell and the McCourt grandmother who spits on Frank’s unruly Presbyterian hair to tame it. And they’re all woven into a vaudeville of comedy, Irish songs and a gallery of relatives, rogues, fools and petty tyrants—priestly and otherwise.
The performance features reserved seating. To purchase tickets or for more information, call the Box Office,908-725-3420, or order online at www.rvccArts.org.
