Rotaract Inducts Global Members

In recognition for their service work, 20 members of the Rotaract Club at Raritan Valley Community College were inducted as Global Rotaract Members on Thursday, Feb. 19.

The Rotaract Club is the youth division of Rotary International for college students. Inductees were presented with a certificate of membership and a global membership pin.

Speakers included RVCC President Michael McDonough, NJ State Senator Christopher “Kip” Bateman, District Governor Elect of Rotary District 7510 Hal Daumé and Joseph Milestone, advisor of the Rotaract Club of Rutgers University.

“One great idea often leads to others, and the expansion of Rotaract Clubs is proof of that” Milestone said. The Rotaract Club at Rutgers University was started by former RVCC Rotaract Club President Yasha Patel in Fall 2014.

Darek Wojtowicz, President of RVCC’s Rotaract Club, said, “With up and coming events like Stop Hunger Now and the Grand Cultural Fest, officially expanding the team only raises my confidence that such events will be a success.”

“It felt good to become a part of something global,” said Rotaract inductee Matthew Majorossy. “To become an official member is an honor.”

Global member’s names are added to the Worldwide Rotaract Directory, which can be used to contact members throughout the world to work on projects.

“One of the Rotaract members, back in 2004, wanted to see Germany,” said Nikitovic Nemanjav, advisor of RVCC’s Rotaract Club. “Since it was expensive to travel, he decided to call Rotaracters from Germany and see if he can stay with them. The answer was ‘yes’ in all cases. So all he bought was a round trip plane ticket to Munich. He managed to travel to about 10 different cities once he was there.”

The members inducted were Gillian Gauss, Paul Gruszka, David Havrila, Aimee Lapensee, Bryan Llumiquinga, Morgan Lojek, Josh Lozano, Matthew Majorossy, Mike Monaco, Khushwant Pall, Valeria Paratsa, Heather Pardonner, Manny Ramirez, Solmayra Ruiz, Jessica Rutledge, Adriana Sandoval, Ricardo Suarez, Justice Thesilius, Alexis Weaver and Alexander Zimmerman.

RVCC’s Rotaract Club members have invested over 500 hours of service work every semester for the past two years.
