RVCC Sets Interactive Theatre Performance for Young Children

Young children will be able to move around on stage during the performances of Egg and Spoon, an interactive romp through the seasons to be staged Monday, April 20, at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg. Performances are set for10 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 4 p.m.

The production, brought to local audiences by Lyngo Theatre of Aberdeen, Scotland, is part of the Theatre’s TinyTots series, specially designed for audience members ages two and older and their families.

A perfect, gentle introduction to the magic of theatre, Egg and Spoon offers children the opportunity to enter in and out of a “magic circle” and as they open all the gifts of nature. Percy and April get audience members settled on comfortable cushions and introduce them to Birdy, still hiding in his glowing egg. Everyone will have to wait until spring to see him, so it’s time to begin a hands-on journey through the year. Children will run through the rain and the falling leaves, and sleep under the snow until the sun wakes everyone up for the butterfly party.

Created by Marcello Chiarenza, Egg and Spoon was adapted by performer Patrick Lynch. Music is by Carlo “Cialdo” Capelli and Elena Marini acts as design assistant.

The New York Times describes Egg and Spoon as “suitable for even the shortest attention spans.” Reviewsgate.com praises the company’s “ability to work at a pace and with a simple directness that gains genuine responses and involvement from very young people…”
