Local audiences will be treated to the beautiful sounds of a traditional Irish Christmas when Danú presents A Christmas Gathering (Féile na Nollag), Friday, December 18, at 8 p.m., at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg. The evening with the acclaimed Irish ensemble is part of the Theatre's Major Artists Series.

Christmas in Ireland is one of the most important holidays for families and friends, as many Irish people living abroad come home to gather in celebration. Local community choirs singing traditional songs for Christmas and Wrens Day (December 26) are a common site throughout Ireland each December. Music and dance gatherings, in communities both urban and rural, have combined for generations to offer a great variety of songs, music, and stories for the holidays.

Danú's A Christmas Gathering offers a taste of these extraordinary events, which have been held across Ireland for hundreds of years. Celtic music lovers around the globe have been thrilled by the ensemble's virtuoso players on fiddle, flutes, button accordion, and percussion, as well as the gorgeous voice of Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh. The performers are joined by top-notch guest dancers.

Strings Magazine has described Danú's performances as "...impressive, immersive and uniquely and unmistakably Irish."

The evening features reserved seating. Tickets cost $25 and $35. To purchase tickets or for more information, call the Box Office, 908-725-3420, or order online at www.rvccArts.org. Subscribers' packages are available for all Theatre series. Senior citizen, student and group discounts are also available for most performances.
